Web-based technology represents the future, as reflected by the global economy which it has produced. We have embraced online licensing services and e-mail communications. We have accommodated consumers in this way because they have told us that they prefer both the convenience and ease of use of this technology, since it is available on a 24/7 basis, and licensing turnaround time has been greatly improved.
Like other state agencies, we utilize third parties to process online licensing applications. These organizations provide similar services to other states, and are able to maintain both the website and process applications at a much lower cost than we can. In addition to remitting your license fee, these organizations may charge a separate, nominal fee for their processing services. In addition to convenience and ease of use, your online application will only be accepted if it has been completed correctly, and help is provided online to assure this has been done. In addition, if there is a minimal processing fee, it will save you postage costs ( or travel time and expense if you hand-deliver your information), and assures that we have received a complete application. You may still file a paper application. However, due to resource constraints and the possibility that your application may have to be mailed back if it is not complete, it is likely that paper processing will be more cumbersome and protracted for both you and the Department.
